William “Billy” T. Hughes, 62, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley, Plains Township surrounded by family.
Born on Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland on October 22, 1958, he was a son of the late Donald Hughes and Beverly (Richards) Payton.
Billy was a graduate of Crestwood High School and attained his Associates degree from Luzerne County Community College. Throughout his life, Billy was an Eagle Scout and had a love of Tae Kwon Do. He studied and taught for many years leading to a Black Belt. He loved taking long drives, going on adventures, hiking, and swimming. He enjoyed listening to music and attending live shows, especially classic rock. Above all else, he was a devoted, attentive, and loving father who passed down his passions to his daughters.
Billy is survived by loving daughters, Lindsay Hughes and her husband Alex Newton, Bethlehem; Megan Hughes and her fiancé, Charlie Grzezdzinski, Wilkes-Barre; Mallory Hughes, Wilkes-Barre; and their mother, with whom he remained close, Karen (Howley) Hughes; Grandson, Emerson Newton; Brothers, Donald Hughes, Timothy Hughes, and Spike Payton; Sister, Toni White, several nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
A joint gathering celebrating the life’s of William T. Hughes, 62, of Wilkes-Barre, and Jeremy Andrewlavage, 44, of Daytona, FL, will be held on August 4, 2021 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Kniffen O’Malley Leffler Funeral and Cremation Services, 465 S. Main Street, Wilkes-Barre.
