Richard E. Crane, 76, of Huntington Township, went to the loving arms of Our Lord and Savior on February 20, 2024, at Allied Hospice after a valiant battle with cancer.
Born on September 22, 1947 in Columbus, Kansas, he was the son of the late Francis and Nelsonia Crane.
Richard proudly served close to eight years in the United States Navy. After leaving the Navy, he worked as an union electrician in numerous states. He retired after working nearly 20 years at the Wyoming Valley Sanitary Authority.
Richard was a devoted leader of the Boy Scouts of America for more than three decades. He took pride in all the accomplishments of the members of Troop 17 of the Columbia-Montour Council. He was Chairman of the council committee which oversaw the Boy Scout and Cub Scout troops.
Richard was a former Huntington Township auditor, a member of the Shickshinny American Legion, and the Grange in Reyburn. He spent his leisure time fishing, woodworking, cutting firewood, growing chestnuts, and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by brothers, John and Mike; and sisters, Pat and Ellen.
Surviving are his wife loving wife of 52 years, the former Carol Ann Gabriel; daughter, Tricia Kashnicki; son, James and his wife Emily; brothers, Kenneth and Dennis and his wife Linda Crawford; sisters, Judy Thompson, Jackie Walters, Susie Showers and her husband, Marty, Kathleen and Becky Crawford; sisters-in-law, Betty Verbinski and her husband, Henry, Barbara Lynn Gabriel; grandson, Raiden; nieces including Courtney (Andrew) Wojtowicz, Danielle Gabriel, and Sherry Verbinski. and numerous other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Private cremation services have been entrusted to Kniffen O’Malley Leffler Funeral & Cremation Services, Wilkes-Barre.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Boy Scout Troop 17 ℅ Marian Hidlay, P.O. Box 24, Huntington Mills, PA 18622 or to the family.
Friends may call at Holy Spirit Parish St. Mary's Church in Mocanaqua on Saturday, March 23 from 9:30 to 10:00a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin immediately after.
