Molly T. (Blaum) Pearson

Molly Blaum Pearson, recently overcome by illness, was the oldest child of the late Edward “Bud” Blaum and Margaret “Peggy” (Hughes) Blaum.  She was the big sister to three siblings: the late Ned Blaum (Joan); Nancy Petlock (Matt); and Amy Martin (Matthew). 

Molly lived and worked her entire life within South Wilkes-Barre. She attended elementary school at St. Theresa’s Church, and then flourished at Meyers High School (Class of ’74). It was in her teen years that Molly crafted an enviable sense of style and personal presentation.

She had great pride for her hometown heritage. She read both local newspapers daily and knew of everything happening in the area. Molly’s memory for people, places, and dates was always a marvel.

When Molly was twenty years old, she married Paul Pearson, who preceded her in death four years ago.  Together, they built a life and home filled with warm reception, laughter and love. Over the decades, they hosted many holiday open-houses, birthday celebrations, and family gatherings that will long be remembered.

From May to September, her backyard was Molly’s haven in the sun where she sat poolside, reading a novel and perfecting her famous summer tan. She had the best laugh – infectious and hearty. She loved dining out, traveling, being Irish, and spending time with her girlfriends in the “Card Club” and the “JPBM Club”. 

Molly’s greatest joy was raising her son, David Pearson.  He was her light and her rock.  Her legacy to David is her joy of life and an undeflatable sense of humor.

Anyone who might have ever needed the services of Wilkes-Barre’s Mercy Hospital, and later Geisinger South, would have most likely been greeted by Molly’s warm demeanor in either Admissions, Cardiac Rehab, or Urgent Care.  For over four decades, Molly made the acquaintance of so many people – from doctors and patients to co-workers and visitors. If you’re wondering if Molly remembered you, the answer is probably yes.

Molly will also be sadly missed by her many nieces and nephews including Samantha Martin and husband Michael Loftus (Eleanor and Ada Loftus), Jacob Martin, Alex Martin, Paige Petlock, George Wanyo, Sara Wanyo, and godchild Justus Wanyo. 

The family would like to thank the staff of The Gardens Wyoming Valley for the loving care they provided to Molly during her time there. 

It is a blessing we celebrate such a good life. With that intent, we bid adieu to Molly, a generous, loving soul.

A memorial service celebrating Molly and Paul’s lives will be held on Sunday, May 5th at the Kniffen O’Malley funeral home in Wilkes Barre. Friends may call from 2:00-4:30pm, with a prayer service following.
