Mary Alexiou, 96, of Mountain Top, passed away peacefully on, Thursday, September 14, at the Highland Park Senior Living Center.
She was born on September 22, 1926, in the heart of New York City, to her parents, John and Efstratia (Mbakalatzis) Alexiou. Mary was member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Wilkes-Barre.
Mary received her education at E.L. Meyer's High School and furthered her academic pursuits at Wilkes University, where she earned her bachelor's degree. She continued her quest for knowledge at the University of Scranton, where she successfully obtained her master’s degree. These educational achievements laid the foundation for her lifelong career as a dedicated Medical Technologist for the State of Pennsylvania and various other businesses throughout her professional journey.
Mary was known for her diverse interests and hobbies. She approached life with curiosity and enthusiasm, leaving an indelible mark on all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, George Alexiou, nephew, John Alexiou, and sister-in-law, Diana Alexiou.
She is survived by her devoted brother, Gus Alexiou, of Chambersburg, PA, her loving sister, Stella (Nicholas) Deakos, of Woodbridge, VA, and several nieces and nephews, their spouse, and children. As well as relatives in Greece.
A private service to celebrate Mary's life will be held at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, with Reverend Gabriel Nicholas officiating. Following the service, Mary will be laid to rest in the Greek section of Oaklawn Cemetery, Hanover Township.
