Margaret “Peggy” Ann (Rushton) Simmonette, 68, of Hanover Twp., passed away peacefully at Kingston Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on Wednesday, May 4, 2022. She was the daughter of Betty Rushton and the late Edward Rushton.
Peggy was a 1972 graduate of GAR high school and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree from King’s College in accounting, which she used to run her own small business, Simmonette Accounting and Tax Services.
She was a lover of dogs and made several donations to several animal rescue organizations over the course of her life. Peggy was a huge fan of the Bee Gees and favored The Minnesota Vikings.
She was preceded in death by her father, Edward Rushton; brothers, Francis (Frankie) and Robert (Robby), and sister, Edwina (Winnie). Her first-born granddaughter, Kayleigh Margaret, also met her at Heaven’s Gates.
Peggy would have celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary with her surviving husband, Barry Simmonette, on June 17, 2022. Surviving, in addition to her husband, her mother, Betty Rushton and siblings, Ella Greskewicz, Edward (Eddie) Rushton, William (Billy) Rushton; sons, Scott (Andrea) Simmonette, Douglasville, GA, Graig Simmonette, Hanover Twp; daughters, Melanie Kohli, Shavertown, Terri Johnson, Hanover Twp and Beth (Randy) Evans, Shermans Dale, PA; grandchildren, Lauryn, Shelbie, Jimmy, Jacob, Mason, Parker and many nieces and nephews.
She did not just meet a person; she made a friend. She was loved by many and will be missed greatly.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Kniffen O’Malley Leffler Funeral & Cremation Services, 465 S. Main St., Wilkes-Barre.
