Family and friends mourn the passing of Louise E. Martin, 88, on Wednesday, February 22, 2023. Born in Wilkes-Barre on June 20, 1934, Louise was the daughter of the late Bruce and Jean Myers, sister to the late Bruce Myers of Portland, Oregon, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt to many nieces and nephews, and loving wife of Leonard E. Martin.
Louise was a lifelong resident of Wilkes-Barre and graduated from E.L. Meyers High School in 1952 where she met Leonard, her husband of nearly 66 years. Early in their marriage, Leonard and Louise participated in square-dancing with the Circle Eighters and were members of the choral ensemble at The Little Theatre of Wilkes-Barre. In addition to raising four children, Louise was an active and dedicated member of St. John’s Lutheran Church for much of her life, serving as a member of the church Council, the Chancel Choir, and quilting club. Prior to her retirement from the American Red Cross, Louise volunteered her time for the organization for many years. She was an accomplished seamstress and baker, loved spending time with her family at their vacation home on Long Beach Island, and taught her children the value of hard work, honesty, and the importance of family.
Surviving Louise are her loving husband, Leonard E. Martin; four children: Virginia Crossin and her husband Richard, Kingston; Douglas Martin and his wife Bernadette, Dallas; Matthew Martin and his wife Amy, Mountain Top; Allison Nguyen and her husband Thuong, Wyncote; and 10 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild who will dearly miss her: Andrew, Julia and Elizabeth Crossin; Chelsea and Amanda Martin; Samantha Martin-Loftus (Michael), Jacob and Alex Martin; Elsa and Abigail Nguyen; and Eleanor Jean Loftus.
Louise will be missed by all and remembered as a kind, lovely, compassionate woman with a heart of gold that touched many lives.
