Kathleen F. Gender

Kathleen F. Gender, age 81, of Elkins Park, Pa. passed away October 13, 2023.  She was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. on October 11, 1942, and was the daughter of the late William F. and Mary V. (Sweeney) Gender. 

Kathleen (Kathy) was a longtime resident of Elkins Park, Pa. along with her beloved husband, Jatinder S. Mehta.  Kathy and Jatinder’s love story lasted more than their 41 years of marriage.  Kathy was the Associate Chief Nurse at the VA Medical Center in Philadelphia for 34 years and retired in 2010.  She was an old school caregiver, role modeling the true essence of professional nursing.  She is remembered as a kind and gentle leader and mentor not only to nurses but to aspiring nurses across the medical center. After retirement, Kathy continued to teach and support others in the area of weight management. No matter what Kathy did she always gave of herself to make a positive impact on the lives of others. 

In addition to her parents, Kathy was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters in Law; William Gender and his late wife, Dorothy; James Gender and his late wife, Jeannine, and brother, Charles Gender.    Also preceded in death were Kathy’s niece, Cherie Petrino and nephews, James T. Gender, Jr., and William D. Gender. 

Kathy is survived by her husband Jatinder, sister in law, Janet (Charles); devoted nieces and nephews, Paul Gender and his wife, Linda, Lynn Hause and her husband, Eric, Charles Gender and his wife, Nada, Jeannine Hagan and her husband, Daniel, Mary Jean Kneringer and her husband, Robert; cherished great nieces and nephews, Ashleigh Cadwallader (Ryan), Erin Walker (Joseph), Kelly Hatcher (Daulton), Morgan Siepel (Matthew), Victoria Eliades (John), Teionna Hagan, Brianna Gender, Meghan Kneringer, Stephanie Hause, Jason Gender, Jordan Gender and Jazmine Kneringer as well as many great-great nieces and nephews.  Kathy will be forever missed. 

Services will be private at Oak Lawn Cemetery Chapel, 1250 S. Main Street, Hanover Township.
