John C. Swiderski, 100, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born in Wilkes-Barre on March 10, 1922. He was the son of the late Alex and Anna (Kimek) Swiderski.
John attended Wilkes-Barre Area schools before joining the military. He honorable served as amember of the 4th Ranger Battalion, also known as Darby’s Rangers, during World War II. He was a prisoner of war in Germany for several months. John was awarded multiple medals for meritorious service including the Purple Heart. After being honorably discharged, he worked for many years at and retired from H.J. Elick Moving Company.
John was an honorary of the Oak Grove Club, where he celebrated his 100th birthday with family and friends. He was honored with a key to the city by the mayor and received letters of recognition as well as visits from his local law makers. John was an excellent gardener who loved canning and pickling his homegrown vegetables. He took great joy in sharing the fruits of his labor. John was also an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies. But most of all, he loved to spend time with family and friends and enjoyed sharing stories from his well lived life.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jane E. (George) Swiderskiand 7 siblings.
Left to cherish his memory are his children;Patricia Goyne; John R. Swiderski; Sharon Kuklewicz and husband, David; 7 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and 7 great great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be Friday at 10 AM at Kniffen O’Malley Leffler Funeral & Cremation Services, 465 S. Main St Wilkes-Barre.Interment will follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery. Family and friends may pay their respects Thursday from 5:00 PM—7:00 PM at the funeral home.
