Gerald Hogan Obituary

Gerald ‘Jerry’ A. Hogan, 84, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital, Plains Twp.

Born in Long Branch, NJ, on February 19, 1938, he was the son of the late John C. and Grace C. Green Hogan.  The family then moved to Pennsylvania, settling at Lake Carey.

He was a graduate of Tunkhannock High School and went on to proudly enlist in the U.S. Army, serving in the Quarter Master Corps while stationed in Germany.  Jerry also graduated from Penn State Credit Union Institute. He was member of the AMVETS #59, Hanover Twp.

Jerry had a rewarding 25-year career as a dedicated employee, Senior Vice President of Operations, and member of the Board of Directors of Choice One Community Federal Credit Union.  He was an active member of St. Conrad’s Young Men’s Society since 1973, where he was Assistant Manager and elected as Financial Secretary, then Treasurer, and served on their credit union’s Board. The incoming class at St. Conrad’s in 2011 was inducted in Jerry’s honor.  He spearheaded many fund-raising campaigns for children and those in need, including ‘God’s Special Children’, which he was also Treasurer and Cofounder, ‘Jerry Merry Christmas’ and ‘Christmas in July’ and many more. He was well known statewide in the credit union movement for his fund-raising efforts for charity.  He was Co Chairman for over 30 years of the charity golf tournament and volunteered as an officer of the bowling, card and golf leagues for St. Conrad’s and the North End Slovak Club and ran the many World Series & Superbowl pools they sponsored.  He was always a diehard New York Mets fan!

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Jack, Sam, Robert, Eddie, Kenny and David; sisters, Karen Hogan and Barbara Hyman.

Surviving are his brother Richard and his wife, Karen, San Luis Obispo, CA; nieces, Mary Ruth, Kathy, Cindy, Janet, Marianne, Stephanie, and Brenda; great nieces & nephews, Ashleigh, Jess, Dan, Dave, Faith, Matthew, Julianne, Caitlynn, Brady, Daniela, Cory and Jocelyn, numerous great-great nieces & nephews, and his faithful companion Vanna.  Very much included in his survivors are his best friend and ‘brother’ Kebs, John, Cathy, and Karen.

Jerry’s family wishes to thank everyone at Geisinger South ED, the staff at Geisinger Wyoming Valley ED, 6 East, PCU and ICU for the level of compassion and care that they extended to both Gerald and the family during this difficult time. A special thanks to Dr. Mane in the ICU; words cannot express our gratitude.
