Donald Jay Cook, Jr., 55, of Kingston, passed away Monday, July 11, 2022, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital, Plains Twp.
Donald was born on Long Island and grew up in Wantagh, N.Y. Donald moved to Milford, Pennsylvania
in 1986. He then became a contractor and maintenance professional who was skilled in multiple
building trades including carpentry, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and painting. In addition
to maintenance, Donald worked in both residential and light commercial construction,
remodeling, and repair and was also an experienced operator of a wide variety of power tools
and equipment including haul trucks, snow plows, excavators, and backhoes.
Among his maintenance positions, he worked as the Assistant Maintenance Supervisor at
Conashaugh Lakes Community Association in Milford from 2000 -2013. His final position was as
the Assistant Maintenance Manager at the Tiffany Court/ Five Star Senior Living facility in
Kingston, PA., where he really enjoyed working with the residents and staff. He received the
‘Employee of the Month’ award several times.
In addition to his maintenance and contracting positions, Donald was especially proud of his
extensive service as a volunteer fireman with the Dingman Township Volunteer Fire
Department in Dingmans Ferry, PA. from 1986 – 1999. Donald was passionate about the Fire
Department’s mission of protecting lives, property and the environment during emergency
situations. While serving, Donald received numerous certifications including vehicle, structural,
water, and related rescue and safety procedures. His final rank was Captain.
Donald enjoyed NASCAR, his dog Shadow, and had a great sense of humor.
Donald is survived by his ex-wife Maureen Cook and their son Dylan. He is also survived by his
four siblings – Bill Cook (Betsy), Margaret (James) Braga, Brian (Mary Faith) Cook, and Melissa
(Anthony) Palumbo, several aunts (Janet Wiebke), Joan Nestor, Lucille McCarthy), an uncle
(Charles Wiebke), and numerous friends, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Donald will be interned with his late parents, Donald and Margaret Cook, at Milford Cemetery on August 19th at 11 am.
