Charlotte Palmer (Donaghue) Fitch

Fitch, Charlotte Palmer Donaghue, age 99, born in Syracuse, NY, nearly 100 years ago on October, 16, 1923, formerly from Syracuse, NY, Lansing, MI, Park Forest, IL, Lawrence Park, PA, Harrisburg, PA, Erie, PA, and Courtdale, PA passed away June 8, 2023 at Wesley Village in Pittston, Pennsylvania.  She graduated from high school in Syracuse, NY, and received her BS and Master’s degrees in psychology from Mercyhurst University, Erie, PA. 

Charlotte was very active in her churches (Christ Lutheran Church in Lawrence Park and Messiah Lutheran in Wesleyville) as a church secretary, committee member, bible studies participant, church council, and her Monday Meditation Group.  She was a counselor at the Dauphin County Prison in Harrisburg, and was employed at the United States Post Office in Erie, PA.   Charlotte was active in the Catherine Little Dancing Moms, an avid runner with the Erie Runner’s Club, world traveler, and had the opportunity to have an audience with the Dali Lama.  She was active and volunteered for the Harrisburg Chapter of the Pennsylvania Prison Society, Folk Dancing, Erie County CASA, the Glenwood Park YMCA and she was a breast cancer survivor.   She adored being with family anytime the occasion rose, especially by holding one of her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren whenever she had the opportunity.   Her favorite bible verse was: Love one another.  John 13:34

Preceded in death by her parents, Peter Francis and Viola Catherine Elizabeth Palmer Donaghue, her brother Edward Earl and infant sister Vera Donaghue, her former husband, Bernard Walter Fitch, Sr, and five grandchildren, Bernard Walter Fitch III, Jaime Trivette, Matthew Ballard, Justin Fitch, and Robert Wise.   She is survived by her eleven children and their spouses, Bernard Walter (Marlene) Fitch, Jr., Erie, PA,  Jeffrey Edward (Kathleen) Fitch, Kalkaska, MI,  Sharyn Margaret Wise (Don Bevelacqua), Erie, PA,  Craig Allen (Kimberly) Fitch, Erie, PA, Gayle Diane (Robert) Magee, Bluffton, SC,  Mark David (Arlene) Fitch, Erie, PA, Joyce Ellen (Robert) McCutchan, Windfield, WV, Cynthia Jean (Robert, dec.), Harrisburg, PA, Matthew Jay (Mary) Fitch, Erie, PA, Charlotte Kay (Michael) Morewood, Girard, PA, and Kimberly Lynn (Thomas) Vest, Harrisburg, PA.   She is also survived by her dear nephew, Dale Fitch (Deanna), Pittsfield, MA, 26 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren plus grandchildren and great-grandchildren to be born later. 

Services will be held at the convenience of the family at Messiah Lutheran Church, Wesleyville, PA.   Memorials can be made to the Mercy Terrace Apartments, 430 E. Grandview Blvd., Erie, PA  16504, Messiah Lutheran Church, 2025 Eastern Ave., Erie, PA  16510, or Wesley Village, 209 Roberts Rd.
