Charles “Chuck” Hannon, III, 55 of Duryea, passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton, after suffering a massive heart attack.
Born in Scranton on September 9, 1966, he was a son of Charles F. Hannon, Jr. and Barbara (Biga) Hannon. He was a graduate of Pittston Area High School and had attended Luzerne County Community College.
Chuck was a member of Queen of the Apostles Parish, Avoca. He was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Pittston. He was employed as a dispatcher in the trucking industry and currently worked at Calex Trucking.
Chuck enjoyed sports and spending time with his family. He assisted with coaching in the Avoca Little League when his children were playing. He was a well-known and respected PIAA basketball, football and baseball referee and had refereed at all levels including state championships. He was also an excellent bowler.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, John and Sophia Biga and paternal grandparents, Charles Sr. and Mary Hannon.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sons, Michael, Matthew and Ryan Hannon; a daughter, Jenna Hannon; brother, Sean Hannon and his wife, Deborah of Mechanicsburg; a nephew, Aaron and niece, Ashley.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 3, 2022, in Queen of the Apostles Parish, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca with the Reverend Phillip J. Sladicka officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Avoca. Friends may call from Sunday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. and Monday morning from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
