Carl Eddy Obituary

Carl F. Eddy, 78, a lifelong resident of the Wilkes-Barre area, most recently of Vestal, NY, passed away  on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at Mercy House, Endicott, NY, surrounded by his family.

Born in Wilkes-Barre on July 19, 1944, he was the son of the late Carl T. and Mary F. (Haverick) Eddy.

Carl attended Wilkes-Barre Area Schools, and deeply valued his education.  He continued learning and inspiring others to learn throughout his life. He was a 1969 graduate of the University of Arkansas Grantham where he studied Communications Electronics, a 1972 graduate of Luzerne County Community College studying Electronics Engineering Technology, a 1985 graduate of Thomas Edison State University studying Electronics, a 1990 graduate of Excelsior University studying Sociology/Psychology.  He also attended graduate school at Millersville University, where he studied Technology Education.

Carl went on to become a beloved and passionate teacher who cherished the education of his students and cared about their success. He was an Adult Electronics Instructor at West Side Area Vocational Technical School from 1973 – 1985. He was a full professor of Electronics Engineering Technology, known for his decades long perfect attendance at Luzerne County Community College where he was employed from 1988 until his retirement in 2018. He was a Nationally Certified Engineer (NCE) and Nationally Certified Telecommunications Engineer (iNARTE) with a Master Endorsement in R. F. Radiation and held an Amateur Extra Class HAM radio license as well as a commercial FCC GROL license with Radar Endorsement. He was also a 35-year member of Mensa.

Aside from his passion for teaching, education, and learning, Carl was known as a fitness enthusiast, runner, and competitive race walker having collected trophies, plaques, and medals he won in his age division in many races. He was also an avid performance car enthusiast, entering his various cars, such as Corvettes and Mustangs in many local car shows over the years. He was an ardent animal lover and supported and adopted from local animal shelters. Carl had a unique sense of humor, was a proud dad and grandpa, and a friend to many. He will be missed and fondly remembered.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Carl T.  and Mary F. (Haverick) Eddy.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Jennifer Kolesar (Kevin Dyer), grandson, Quentin, and granddaughter, Scarlett, all of Vestal, NY.

A viewing will be held at Kniffen O’Malley Leffler Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc. 465 S. Main St. Wilkes Barre, on Friday, September 16, 2022, from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at 10:30 AM, at Chapel Lawn Memorial Park, Dallas, with Pastor David Campbell, Jr. officiating. Those wishing to attend are asked to please go directly to the cemetery.
