Betty Shaw Obituary

Betty Shaw, 89, of Wilkes-Barre, PA, entered eternal rest November 23, 2020 with family by her side in Residential Hospice at Geisinger South.

Born October 17, 1931 in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Barbara Stritzinger Stucker.  Betty was a member of the graduating class of 1949 from GAR High School.  She married Melvin E. Shaw, Sr. in 1952 and raised two sons, Melvin and Ronald in a loving home.

Betty and Mel enjoyed 57 years of marriage until his death in 2007.

She was a member of Albright United Methodist Church in Wilkes-Barre.

Betty  is survived by her son, Melvin “Jay” Shaw, Jr. and his wife Deborah; daughter-in-law, Jane Lyons Shaw; grandchildren, Katherine Shaw, Melvin Shaw, III, Sarah Bartlett and Ronald Shaw; great grandchildren, Marissa D’Amico, Christian D’Amico, Adonis Fachin Shaw, Emma Fachin Shaw, Lilly Bartlett and Finn Bartlett. Also several nieces and nephews.

Betty is predeceased by her husband, Melvin, 2007; son, Ronald Shaw, 2009, granddaughter, Kimberly D’Amico, 2005; brother, Henry Stucker, 2009; sisters, Louise McPherson, 2003 and Margaret Gill, 2018.

She was employed by Hallmark for over 25 years.   During this time she made many friends as she traveled as a member of the installation team.

Betty’s family has many memories of great times together. From Sunday dinners together, trips to Disney and the beach, and great weekends at the cabin. As family grew up, married and moved away she loved to visit them.

A special family time was at Christmas making cookies and the kids and grandkids would always try to be home for the traditional cutout cookies (along with a little flour throwing). She loved to see some of the strange cookies that they created out of dough. Times the entire family will remember.

Family and friends may call between 5:00 to 7:00 on Wednesday, at Kniffen O’Malley Leffler Funeral Home, 465 S. Main St., Wilkes-Barre.  Social distancing and masks are required of all of those attending.

A private funeral will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, Hanover Twp.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that you consider a donation to Blue Chip Animal Rescue, 974 Lockville Rd., Dallas, PA  18612.

The family would like to thank Kingston Manor, where Betty was a resident for the last 15 months, for the great care and compassion they provided to Betty. Also, they would like to extend their deep gratitude to all the caretakers from Commonwealth Hospital in Wilkes-Barre and especially to the staff at the Residential Hospice at Geisinger South for the compassionate care you provided not only to Betty but to the family during this difficult time. “Those we love remain with us for love itself lives on, and cherished memories never fade because a loved one is gone.”
