Arthur J. Thomas Jr., 87, of Clover, VA, passed away on September 25, 2021, at his son’s residence in Wilkes Barre, PA.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, on April 19, 1934, he was a son of the late Arthur J. and Lily (Leary) Thomas Sr.
Following graduation, he went on to receive his bachelor’s degree in accounting. Arthur was an accountant for 60 years. He served in the United States Army, Sergeant First Class from 1957 until 1963. Arthur was a member of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew, as well as a member, usher, and treasurer at the St. Mark Episcopal Church, Brooklyn, NY. He was a member of the Brooklyn Bedford Stuyvesant Lions Club, where he held many positions.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Stanley Thomas, and a sister, Rosemary Thomas.
Arthur is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Viola (Green) Thomas; son, Arthur B. Thomas, Wilkes-Barre; daughters, Sylvia L. Williams, Ohio, Therese V. James, Ohio; grandchildren, Patrick S., Briana W., Michael G., Brooke J., Nia T.; great grandchildren, Kingston Stennett, Messiah Stennett, Peyton Gravesandy; sisters, Seaflower Dawson, Brooklyn NY, Gloria Walker, Brooklyn NY; sister-in-laws, Vivian (Joseph) Wilborn, Mary Cousins; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Thursday, September 30, 2021, at 11:30 AM at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA.
