Alice T. Umphred of Kingston died Thursday October 8th. Alice, daughter of
Charles and Alice (Simpson) Spittle, was born in Wilkes-Barre.
She was a graduate of Coughlin High School, attended Wilkes-Barre Business College and
was employed by Wilkes College and the Pa Economy League.
Mrs. Umphred was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Mary Ruth
Cummings of York. Surviving are her husband of 72 years, Edward, Kingston;
son Neal and Bernadine, Redmond, Washington; Charles and Cynthia, West
Wyoming; daughter Maryalice, Forty Fort; sister Judith Kleist, Wilkes-Barre
granddaughter, Ananda and great grandson Jayce, both of Idaho, several
cousins, nieces, and nephews; best friend Doris Maher, New Jersey; and
"adopted" son John Keenan, Maryland.
Alice was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Church. Her burial will be private
at the convenience of the family in accordance with her wishes. In lieu of
flowers, please make donations to the local S.P.C.A., Northeast Sight
Services or your favorite charity.
