Wilma A. (Kemrite) Krueger

Wilma A. Krueger, 92, of Lancaster, formerly of Wilkes-Barre, died at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy, on Friday, May 30, 2014.

Born in Shickshinny, PA, on June 20, 1921, Wilma is survived by her son Wayne Koepke and daughter-in-law Bernice of Sarasota, FL; daughter Nancy Grand and son-in-law Stanley of Lancaster, PA; her sister Alverda Turley of Whiting, NJ; 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by, sons Carl W. Koepke, Jr. and Mark D. Koepke, husbands Carl William Koepke, Sr. and Carl E. Krueger, sister Louise Wade, and brothers Willard and Edward Kemrite.

Wilma attended Nanticoke public schools and high school in Glen Burnie, MD. She was a member Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Wilkes-Barre, Women of ELCA, and the Shawnee and Firwood Seniors Clubs. She worked in the garment industry prior to her retirement.

Dedicated to community service and education, she was a founding member and past president of the Lee Park PTA. She had also served as Chairperson of the United Way, Hanover Township; president of Civic Improvement, which she had helped organize; and as a Red Cross volunteer. She also taught Sunday School and sang in the church choir.  Wilma gave generously of her time to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where she volunteered in the office and served on the property committee. In addition she was a member of the Residential Committee and volunteer at Washington Square Apartment Building, where she had resided for 27 years prior to moving to Lancaster in 2013.

Wilma loved playing cards, especially pinochle, with friends and family. She enjoyed reading, word puzzles, and was an avid gardener. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, generous and a delight to be with. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

A viewing will be held on Sunday, June 1, between 2:00-4:000 PM at Kniffen O’Malley Funeral Home, 465 S. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, PA.

The Celebration of Life Service will be held at Kniffen O’Malley Funeral Home on Monday, June 2, at 11:00 a.m., Pastor Peter Kuritz presiding, with internment to follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township.
