William George Watkins, age 85, of the Goose Island section of Wilkes-Barre, passed away on May 11, 2024, at the Hampton House, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on February 22, 1939, in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, and spent his entire life in Goose Island. In his younger days, he was affectionately known as "Hot-Dog" among his friends, but in later years, he took pride in being called "Pop."

William was a dedicated union laborer of Labor Local 215, where he worked for many years at Bognet in Hazleton. He retired at the age of 62 to devote his time to his greatest joys—his grandchildren. William cherished every moment spent watching his grandchildren participate in their activities. He was their biggest fan, never missing a practice or game, and always quick to offer praise for their achievements. His grandchildren were his most treasured gifts, as he often expressed.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Myrtle, father, George Watkins, sisters Peggy Kundratic and Marie Ruzanski, brother Harold Reese, niece Cheri Kundratic, brother-in law Daniel Peck. William is survived by his former wife, Nancy Watkins; his beloved daughter, Nancy, and son-in-law James Chafin; and his entire world, his grandchildren Brandon, Ethan, and Lydia Chafin. He is also survived by his sister, Hannah (Jane) Peck, brother-in-law Andrew Kundratic; nephews Kevin and Andrew Kundratic, Jeffrey and Daniel Peck; and great-nieces and nephews.

In accordance with his wishes, funeral services will be private and arranged at the family's discretion by Kniffen O’Malley Leffler Funeral Home.

William will be remembered fondly for his unwavering support for his family, his strong work ethic, and his deep love for his grandchildren. He leaves behind a legacy of devotion and care that will be cherished by all who were fortunate to know him. May he rest in peace.
