William E. Harris, 67, of Mountain Top, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at Keystone Garden Estates, Larksville, in the company of his wife and children.
Born in Wilkes-Barre on March 13, 1947, he was a son of the late Samuel and Ruth (Jenkins) Harris. He was a graduate of E.L. Meyers High School, where he was a member of the Wrestling Hall of Fame. He earned his Associates Degree from Wilkes College.
William was a member of the National Guard and helped facilitate the evacuation during the Agnes Flood.
For over 25 years, William was a PIAA High School wresting referee and was known as one of the best in the area.
Prior to retiring, he was employed by Chrysler as an insurance agent.
Upon retiring, Billy spent some great years traveling the country with his wife Peggy and enjoying their family and their lifelong friends from the valley.
Surviving are his loving wife, the former Margaret “Peggy” Aston; a son, James William Harris and his wife, Kristen, of Philadelphia; a daughter, Megan Loscomb and her husband, William, of Johnson, VT; 2 granddaughters, Gracie Jane and Ella Jane; a brother, James Harris and his wife, Janet, of Mountain Top; several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday at 12 p.m. at Kniffen O’Malley Funeral Home, 456 South Main Street, Wilkes-Barre. Friends may call from 10:00 until 12:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 57 North Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701.
