Stanley Joseph Cope, 90, of Shickshinny, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 19, 2026 at Allied Services Hospice, Wilkes-Barre, following complications from a stroke. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Stanley was born February 22, 1935 at his parents’ home above the Mountain Echo Newspaper, Shickshinny where his father was employed. He was a son of the late Dana and Geraldine (Thomas) Cope and grew up alongside four sisters and four brothers.

Stanley proudly served in the United States Army’s 82nd Airborne Division as a supply sergeant and paratrooper, completing numerous jumps during his service. He was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC, and in Germany.

After his military service, Stanley worked for Ford Motor Company in New York. He later married the love of his life, Bernadine, and was employed at Deluxe Manufacturing before establishing his own building and remodeling business, Stanley J. Cope and Sons.

Stanley loved the outdoors and found joy in hunting, fishing, gardening, flowers and beekeeping. He enjoyed woodworking as well as making homemade wine, sauerkraut, apple cider and ice cream.

He cherished and valued his home which he designed and built himself. His favorite place to be was in his woods admiring his land and trees. Above all, he treasured time spent with his family. He was affectionately known as Grampy.

He was a member of Roaring Brook Baptist Church, where he worshiped the Lord through song and prayer and enjoyed fellowship with the church community.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bernadine M. (Pogwist) Cope.

Stanley’s legacy will be carried on by his children, Stanley J. Cope, II (Emma), Gerard J. Cope (Elizabeth), Carline M. Lindley and Michael J. Cope; grandchildren, Jessica (Connor), Samantha (Mark), Jordan, Desirae, Devin (Bryce), Sydney, Reagan, Austin, and Tessa; great grandchildren, Aiden, Isabella, Derek, Leeah and Marshall; brother, Patrick (Bette); sister, Hazel and a large extended family.

A Celebration of Life in honor of Stanley will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026 to begin at 11:00am at Roaring Brook Baptist Church located at 332 Prichards Road, Hunlock Creek. Please come willing to share your stories of Stanley. A private memorial will be held by the immediate family at a later date.

In lieu of flowers donations can be given to Veterans Administration, Wilkes-Barre via VA.gov/volunteer-or-donate.
