On February 12th, 2016, Friday afternoon, Shirley Helene Honeychurch of Garrahan Street, Hanover Township, passed away at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township, surrounded by her loving family; rejoining her husband of 58 years. She was born on Oct 10th 1931 at Mercy Hospital in Wilkes-Barre, to her late parents Benjamin and Helene James. Shirley graduated from Meyers High School in 1950, and married on Dec 22nd, 1950 to the late Richard H. Honeychurch.
Shirley worked in retail and volunteered at F.M. Kirby Center, but was dedicated to providing her family a clean and loving home. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and socializing with friends at social events; especially going to the Mohegan Sun. Shirley was also a member of The Episcopal Church of St. Clement & St. Peter in Wilkes-Barre. In the last years of her life, while battling her ailments, she received her greatest enjoyment from great grandchildren coming to visit, who will miss her presence.
She is preceded in death by her late husband, Richard H. Honeychurch, parents, Benjamin and Helene James, and sister Audrey Korba. She is survived by son, Richard J. and his wife, Maureen Honeychurch, Nanticoke; daughter, Karen Palladino and her husband, Alan of Larksville; sister, Betty Unger and husband John, Charlotte, N.C.; grandchildren, April Kivler and husband John, Richard Honeychurch, and Ryan Honeychurch and wife Chalice, and Brian and Michelle Palladino; and great grandchildren Emily and John Kivler, and Wyatt, Cole, and Lily Honeychurch; along with sister in law Martha Tutak and husband Larry, and several nieces and nephews.
The family of Shirley would like to thank Timber Ridge Health Care Center and Geisinger Wyoming Valley in Plains for their great care and attentiveness in aiding Shirley in the last several weeks of her life.
A Christian burial service will be held from The Episcopal Church of St. Clement & St. Peter, 165 Hanover St., Wilkes-Barre, with The Rev. William S. Marshall officiating on Tuesday the 16th of February starting 10:30AM; for those who are attending the funeral services go directly to the church. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
