Robert “Bob” Bruce McLenon

January 1, 1940–September 11, 2026

Robert “Bob” Bruce McLenon, 86, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on September 11, 2026, following a brief illness.

Born on January 1, 1940, Bob grew up in Essex, Ontario, Canada surrounded by multiple generations of family in the area. As a young man he served in the Canadian Air Force gaining technical experience. He transferred those skills to a long and distinguished career with IBM. His career took him and his family to many places over the years, including Ottawa, Ontario; Dearborn, Michigan; Lexington, Kentucky; Grand Island, New York; Boiceville; New York; and Rochester, New York. Bob retired from IBM 12/31/1999, often joking that the company’s initials stood for “I’ve Been Moved.”

Retirement did little to slow him down. In 2002, Bob founded Greenville Clockworks in Simpsonville, South Carolina, combining his entrepreneurial spirit with his talent for the precise and patient art of clock repair. He owned and operated the business until selling it in 2019.

Bob was known for his quick wit, his keen interest in history and current events, love of the Chicago Cubs, his appreciation for traveling and passion for classic cars. Above all, he loved his family and friends, who were the greatest joy of his life. He had a remarkable ability to connect with people and was a true magnet for friendship. The extraordinary circle of friends he gathered throughout his life brought him tremendous happiness, and their companionship meant the world to him.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife, RoseAnn McLenon. He is also survived by his children raised with his beloved predeceased wife of 59yrs Utah Jean Elizabeth White McLenon: his son, Hal McLenon, and Hal’s wife, Vonda; his daughter, Janet Marr, and Janet’s husband, Edward Marr; his grandchildren, Jared Marr, Jocelyn Marr, and Jonathan Marr and his wife, MaKayla; and his great-grandchildren, Delilah Acosta-Marr and Oliver Marr and RoseAnn’s cherished children, Kirk Buchanan and Karen Giberson.

Bob was born to the late Ruth (Upcott) McLenon and Bruce McLenon. He was predeceased by his brother Ronald McLenon.

After selling Greenville Clockworks, Bob enjoyed his final years of retirement living in Myrtle Beach, SC, and Dorrance, PA.

A memorial service will be held in the Mountaintop, Pennsylvania, area in the coming weeks, with details to be announced. A second memorial service and celebration of life event is planned for the spring/summer 2027, when Bob will be interred in Canada. Details to be announced early 2027.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to any of the following: Jack Minor Bird Sanctuary Kingsville Ontario (https://jackminer.ca/), Canada Cancer Society (www.cancer.ca), Roswell Park Cancer Comprehensive Cancer Center, Buffalo, NY (https://give.roswellpark.org\donate), Brookgreen Gardens, Murrels Inlet SC (www.brookgreen.org/anuual-fund).

Bob will be remembered for his humor, intelligence, warmth, and genuine love of people. His life was made richer by family and friendship, and the lives of those who knew him were richer because of him.
