Robert J. Hines, 75, of Pittston, and formerly of Avoca, passed away Thursday October 11, 2018 at the Gardens at East Mountain, Wilkes-Barre, after a long battle with kidney disease. Robert was born in Avoca on September 8, 1943. He was the son of the late Leo and Ruth (Maxwell) Hines.
Bob attended Avoca High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Army, assigned to the 293rd Engineers in Baumholder, Germany during the Vietnam era. He had varied careers throughout his life and ultimately retired from the Chrysler Corporation in Newark, DE assembly plant. Bob was a proud member of the United Auto Workers Union, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was an avid reader with a passion for reading history on the U.S. military, U.S. government and world leaders. Bob was also a fan of the New Orleans Saints football team.
Preceeding him death was his first wife; Carol Mock.
Robert is survived by his wife; Judie Hines, son; Bruce Hines, daughter; Tara Hines. Stepsons; Eric and Vince Magraner and Joe Montras. Several grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive.
Private funeral services and interment will be held in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. There are no public calling hours. Arrangements are entrusted to Kniffen O’Malley Leffler Funeral and Cremation Services Inc. 728 Main Street, Avoca.
