Naomi P. (Gates) Franklin, 100, of Hanover Township, passed away peacefully, Thursday evening, January 1, 2015 at Celtic Hospice Inpatient Unit, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Edwardsville, on October 15, 1914, she was a daughter of William Eno and Naomi (Fulton) Gates.

Naomi was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church (Wyoming Valley Presbyterian Church) for many years.  She was active in the rummage sale and Ruth’s Group at the church. She worked as a supervisor at JB Carr Biscuit Company, Wilkes-Barre till 1945.

Her family has a long history in the Wyoming Valley going back to 1740’s when family members settled here from Connecticut during the Revolutionary War.  Her family was a big part of the Valley’s history.

She loved listing to the radio and was a skilled seamstress. Naomi loved crocheting for family and friends, she made many beautiful afghans for people over the years.

Naomi was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles W. Franklin, who passed away in 1978, 3 sisters, Mary Dixon, Natalie Gribble, Jean Solomon, 4 brothers, Willard, William, Howard and Ernest Gates,

Surviving are her loving son, Charles W. Franklin, Hanover Township, 2 loving granddaughters, Wendy and Cindy Franklin, several nieces and nephews, several great nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, January 5, 2015, at Kniffen O’Malley Funeral Home, 465 S. Main Street, Wilkes-Barre. Officiating will be Reverend Gideon Gaitano and Reverend Dennis Madeira, New Life Community Church, Hanover Township with interment to follow in Fern Knoll Burial Park, Dallas.

Friends are invited to call on Sunday from 4:00PM to 8:30PM at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that you make a donation to WRGN Radio, 2457 State Rt. 118, Hunlock Creek, PA 18621, in memory of Naomi’s love of radio.
