Mimi Lee (Bates) Todd, 90, of Wilkes-Barre, went from suffering to glory on Monday, November 1, 2021 in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Twp.

Born in Tallahassee, FL on January 9, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Alex Bates, Sr. and Everlena (Davis) Bates.

She accepted the Lord & Savior early in life.  She was a faithful servant, for 56 years, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Wilkes-Barre, where she served on the Missionary Board, did volunteer tutoring and sang with Sr. Belle Williams Choir. She was active in the development and execution of the church community Birthday Calendar.  She loved playing the lottery and sharing heartfelt stories of a family of 9 siblings, from cooking to farming.  She will always be known for her baked sweet potato pies, beef stew, corn bread, fried chicken and collard greens.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Junius B. Todd, who passed away December, 2011; her son, Naymon Todd; daughter, Juanita Todd; infant sister, Everlena Bates; sisters, Edith Slocum, Annie Thompson, Lucille Charlton, Minerva Geter; brothers Alex Bates, Jr., Everett Bates.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Alphonso Todd, Wilkes-Barre; Reginald Todd, Wilkes-Barre; Maurice Todd, Ft. Washington, MD; Eric Todd, Wilkes-Barre; daughter Onerene Todd, St. Louis, Mo;  grandchildren Odetta Todd, Tamu Todd, Adele Gushanas, Christopher Jackson, Noelle Todd, Ryan Todd, Eric Todd Jr., JoVona Bradford, JoShon Bradford, Brandon Todd and Alec Todd;  great-grandchildren Lance, Dione, Tesha, Vincent, Amanda, Danielle, Zakaya and Oshaila, a sister, Bessie Bruce of Tallahassee, FL and a brother,  Charlie Bates of Jacksonville, FL.

Homegoing services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 15, 2021 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 105 Hill St., Wilkes-Barre with the Reverend Anthony Vieney officiating.  Interment will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hanover Twp.  Friends may call Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.

Arrangement have been entrusted to Kniffen O’Malley Leffler Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., Wilkes-Barre.
