Merissa Ann (Kendall) Sims, 42, of Wilkes Barre, passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2022, at home, surrounded by her loving family, following a courageous battle with breast cancer. Born on August 26, 1980, she was a daughter of Stacie Smith and Maureen (Kendall) Tresenreiter. A Wyoming Area High School graduate, Merissa played saxophone, was in the marching band, and a member of S.A.D.. Merissa went on to accomplish many things. She was a Luzerne County Community College honor graduate where she was also president of the Student Government Association. She was V.P. of Phi Theta Kappa, was officer and a member of Alpha Sigma Lambda and Sigma Kappa Delta. She worked for Integrity Staffing as an account manager. Her greatest achievement in life was being a mother. She loved her children, family, and friends, and had a love for travel. She was a member of the Baptist Tabernacle Church, Wilkes Barre. Merissa was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Clinton L. Kendall, and Alice Kendall, (Nicholas Aich), paternal grandmother, Shirley Smith, Uncle David Kendall, and Aunt Christina Keihl. Left to cherish her memory are her children, daughter, Megan M. Sims, son, Michael L. Sims; mother, Maureen Tresenreiter (Franz); father, Stacie Smith; brothers, Kenneth Fox, Kristopher Fox, Justin Whitebread, and Charles Whitebread; sisters, Tanya Fox, Amber Davis, Amanda Heck, and Krista Oshinski; several nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, and cousins'; best friends, Jillian Everett, and Christine Brewer; and pets, Finnegan, Stella, and Trooper. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at Kniffen O'Malley Leffler Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., 465 S. Main Street Wilkes Barre, from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM, the service will begin at 7:00 PM with Pastor Valerie Black Officiating. Merissa asks that everyone wear pink for breast cancer awareness. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Candies Place, 190 Welles St. Forty Fort, PA 18704.
