Mei Yi Chen, 75, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Tuesday, March 15, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born on December 1, 1940 in TaiShan Village, Guondong, China, where she lived working hard and diligently most of her life, she was a daughter of the late Ming Can Chen and Jin Rui Kuang.

She moved to America on January 1, 2004 with her second husband Ji Hu Mei. She started working for Nardone’s Baking Company on January 2, 2004.  She retired in August 2015.  She loved gardening, her son and watching her grandchildren playing and just enjoying life.

Mei Yi was of the Buddhist faith. In her son’s own words “She was the most wonderful Mother & the greatest Grandmother, a child or any children could have.”

Left to cherish her memory is a son, Bo Yi Mei/Zhen and 3 grandchildren, Qin Hong Zhen, Zhu Xuan Zhen, and Hui Yan Zhen, with whom she resided with.  She is also survived by; 3 brothers and 1 sister, numerous nieces, nephews & cousins in different parts of the world.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Kniffen O’Malley Leffler Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., 465 S. Main Street, Wilkes-Barre.  Following the viewing, she will be cremated and her cremated remains will remain with her son and grandchildren at their home.

Flower offerings can be sent to the funeral home.

The family would like to say Thank You for all the kindness and caring that people had shown through the years.  She was a warm, sweet, kind person that would do anything she could for people. She will be sadly missed by her son, Bo, his fiancé, Sharon, Qin, Zhu ,Hui and many friends and family
