Mary C. Smith

Mary Catherine Smith passed away on May 1, 2014.

She was born on August 13, 1936 in Wilkes-Barre where she was also raised. She was the daughter of the late Sophia and Gilbert Smith. Her two brothers, Carl and Gilbert, preceded her in death.

She graduated from Meyers High School in 1955, and was employed by Wesley Village, Jenkins Township, for 26 years.

Mary was a member of Wyoming Valley Presbyterian Church, formerly Westminster Presbyterian Church, Wilkes-Barre. She was a member of the Board of Deacons. Her church life meant a great deal to her.

Surviving are her nephew, Gilbert smith and his wife, JoAnn Smith; her three step-great nephews, who are JoAnn's sons, William Seiwell, Aaron Siewell and Patrick Siewell, all of whom she accepted into her extended family and loved as her own as they grew into young adults. They all reside in Nanticoke.

There will be a celebration of Mary's life on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Wyoming Valley Presbyterian Church, 2 Lockhart Street, Wilkes-Barre. The Reverend Karen Nickels will officiate.
