Marilyn L. (Emerson) Whitmire, 73, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at the Hampton House, Hanover Twp.

Born in Penn Yan, NY on Oct. 16, 1949, she was a daughter of the late J. Edgar Emerson, Sr., and Hazel L. (Wentworth) Emerson.

Marilyn was a 1967 graduate of Franklin High School, Prattsburgh, NY and later graduated from Jo Mar Beauty School in 1984.

She was a member of Calvary Bible Church, Wilkes-Barre and loved to knit. Marilyn will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, J. Edgar Emerson, Jr.

Marilyn is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Joel E. Whitmire; sons, Timothy A. and David P. Whitmire, Wilkes-Barre; 2 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; sister, Elaine Nesbit, Branchport, NY and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Friday at Kniffen O’Malley Leffler Funeral & Cremation Services, 465 S. Main St., Wilkes-Barre. Family and friends may visit from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Sorber Cemetery, Shickshinny. Officiating will be Pastor Garnett.
