With great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Kit Griffiths Kelchner, 71, of Wilkes-Barre, on January 24th, 2026.

Born on December 15th, 1954, in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, Kit was a proud graduate of GAR High School, Class of 1972. She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in business and a master’s degree in education from Bloomsburg University, and later received her certification in elementary education from Misericordia University.

Kit dedicated her life to education, working at Williams Valley, Pine Grove, Job Corps, GAR High School, and retiring from Meyers High School. She was a devoted educator and a proud leader of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), leaving a lasting impact on countless students throughout her career.

Kit enjoyed traveling to Atlantic City, spending time with friends at the casino, and sharing lunch dates filled with laughter and conversation. She cherished time spent with family and friends at Sylvan Lake, where many happy memories were made.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Todd Kelchner; their daughter, Sarah McAfee, and husband Steve; her sister, Jaret Straub; her nephew, David Straub; her niece, Jill Vecchio, and husband Josh; and her great nephews, Jack and Gabe Vecchio.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 2nd, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Kniffen O’Malley Leffler Funeral Home. Services will be held privately for the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Kit’s memory.
