Listen to Obituary

Karen (Delaney) Komorek 72, of South Wilke-Barre, surrounded by her family, passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon, July 13, 2022 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township. Born in Wilkes-Barre on March 21, 1950, she was the daughter of the late Ralph W. Sr., and Hazel (Lange) Delaney.  Karen was a 1968 graduate of E. L. Meyers Memorial High School, Wilkes-Barre.  After high school, Karen went on to obtain her certification in electronic data processing and prior to retiring, she worked in customer relations in the banking industry.  Karen’s zest for life continued as she traveled, enjoyed time at her beach bungalow on the Maryland coast, and revelled with family and friends. She was active in the Daughters of the American Revolution and served as Regent of Shawnee Fort Chapter paying homage to her family ancestry. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by former husband, Albert; and brother, Ralph W. Delaney and wife, Gail. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Albert Komorek Jr. and wife, Alyssa, Wilkes-Barre; Michael Komorek and wife, Tara, South Wilkes-Barre; the loves of her life, grandchildren Dylan and Felix (Paige); brother, Lawrence Paul Delaney and wife Shelly, Wyoming; large extended family of cousins, nieces, and nephews who were not only family, but cherished friends and confidants; and Molly, her ever zealous and loving dog. A devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, Karen changed many people's lives with her kind and ever generous heart; happiness is yours for the giving, as she would say.  She loved the life she was blessed with and her smile and laughter will never fade from our hearts.  Her fierce and driven spirit actively engaged her in causes and matters that drove change and that mighty spirit will forever envelop our hearts and souls. Time is ever so precious, and Karen was taken special care of in her final days. Aside from her devoted family and friends, the ICU and Hospice staff at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township cared for Karen with compassion and empathy that truly went above the call of duty. We, as a family, have been blessed to have these special people at the end of Karen’s life; they made her comfortable and at ease. Our family will be forever grateful and our gratitude cannot be expressed in words. Your actions, however small and   large, have lessened this challenging time. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 PM by Chaplain Marcelle Dotson on Sunday, July 24, 2022, at Kniffen O’Malley Leffler Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., 465 South Main Street, Wilkes-Barre.  Family and friends may visit from 3 to 6 p.m. Charitable donations may be made in Karen’s name to The SPCA of Luzerne County. .
