Joseph J. Morrissey, 59, of Hanover Township, passed away Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Wilkes- Barre General Hospital with his family by his side.

He was born on April 15, 1958 in Wilkes-Barre to the late Gerard J. Morrissey, Sr. and Florence R. (Helfrich) Morrissey.

Joseph was a member of St. Robert Bellarmine Parish. He was a graduate from G.A.R. High School, where he wrestled, and King’s College where he got his degree in computer programming.  He owned and operated a computer programing consulting firm and worked as a program analyst in both, NJ and FL.

Joseph was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 302. He was on a bowling team and liked to gamble at the casino. He was a diehard New York Yankee and Giants fan. Joseph also liked Notre Dame.

Joseph is survived by two brothers John Morrissey, San Jose, CA and Michael Morrissey, Laflin, PA. He is also survived by three sisters; Irene Palmer, Temperance, MI, Ellen Morrissey, Forty-Fort, PA and Gert Morrissey-Pryor, Dallas, PA. Joseph is also survived by several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Joseph is preceded in death by four sisters; Mary Ann Skammer, Rose Mary Alfieri, Christine Obenski and Kathleen Morrissey and three brothers Gerard, Jr., Robert and Thomas.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral which will be conducted on Friday, August 18, 2017, at 9:30 AM from Kniffen O’Malley Leffler Funeral & Cremation Services, 465 S. Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM in St. Robert Bellarmine Parish, 143 W. Division St., Wilkes-Barre.

Interment with Right of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township.

Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, August 17 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
