John O. Deiter, 75, of Shavertown, passed away peacefully at home on January 31, 2026, surrounded by the loving presence of his family.
Born in Wilkes-Barre on June 30, 1950, he was the son of the late Oliver and Karlys M. (Zimmerman) Deiter. John was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, a loyal friend, and a steady, comforting presence to those who knew him.
He proudly worked for many years for Conrail Railroad and was known for his strong work ethic and quiet pride in providing for his family.
John loved the outdoors, spending time at auto salvage yards with his nephew, traveling and Saturday nights playing Texas Hold’em with friends and family. Above all, he cherished time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren, who were the center of his world.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Kevin and Justin Deiter, his siblings, George Deiter and Elizabeth Luongo, his nephew, Brian Luongo and his best friend, Timothy (Tim) Cleary.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his daughter, Melinda Deiter, his sons, John Deiter Jr. and Jeremiah C. Deiter, grandchildren; one great-grandchild, and his nephew, Bobby Luongo and wife Lori.
Private cremation services have been entrusted to Kniffen O'Malley Leffler Funeral & Cremation Services, Wilkes-Barre
