Jean Starzec, 99, of Avoca, passed away June 30, 2026, at home surrounded by her family.

Born Dec. 12, 1926, in Taylor, she was the 16th child born to the late Julian and Pearl (Ratajski) Pucilowski.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley of 71 years; 7 brothers and 8 sisters.

Surviving are her daughters, Annette Judge (Brian), Kingston Twp., Louise Starzec, at home, Jeanene Baran, Dupont and Ramona Lenchak (David), Dupont; 7 grandchildren, Nicole Betances, Matthew Starzec, Andrew Judge, Tyler & Justin Baran, Melissa Helmer and Michael Lenchak; great granddaughter, Jaslynn Betances and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jean graduated from Avoca High School and Scranton Lackawanna College. She was later employed at Nardones, West Pittston and the Airport Coffee Shop.

Jean would say over and over again that she did not want to live to be 100 years old. But she lived 99 years, 6 months, and 18 days full of life.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, July 6 at 9:30 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at Nativity of Our Lord Parish, 142 Stephenson St, Duryea, cremation will follow. Please go directly to the church.

Family and friends may pay their respects Sunday from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM at Kniffen O’Malley Leffler Funeral & Cremation Services, 728 Main St, Avoca.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the SPCA of Luzerne County or the Avoca Fire Department.

The family would like to thank Visiting Angels for their compassionate care over the last 3 years. They would also like to thank Amanda and Nancy who have helped provide care for her throughout the last year, whom Jean adored. The family also extends their gratitude to Hospice of the Scared Heart for their care and compassion they showed to Jean and her family.
