Helen M (Fliss) Mullen

Helen M. (Chuch) Mullen, 79, of Avoca, passed away Sunday, August 20, at Regional Hospital of Scranton.

Born in Dupont on August 13, 1938, she was a daughter of the late John and Anna (Mazur) Fliss.  Helen was a graduate of Dupont High School. She worked as a school crossing guard and later retired from Laura Fashions.

Helen loved going to the casino, crossword puzzles and buying scratch off tickets at the Avoca Convenient Food Mart. She also enjoyed making pickles.

She was a member of the Avoca Lions Club and the Altar and Rosary Society of the former Ss. Peter & Paul Church, Avoca.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Edward, John, Zigmond and Frank Fliss; sisters, Matilda (Tillie) Fliss, Mary Cieniewicz and Maryann Fliss.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 55 years, Francis “Buddy” Mullen, Sr.; sons, Francis “Buddy” Mullen Jr. and his wife, Lisa and Mark Mullen and Carla Hughes;  granddaughter, Madison and grandson, “Fonzie”; siblings, Celia Biesaideski, Dupont, Peter Fliss, New Britian, CT, Rita Wilk, Delaware, NJ and Violet Fliss, Dupont; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10:00 A.M. from Queen of the Apostles Church, Avoca.  Officiating will be Father Philip Sladicka. Please go directly to the church if you will be attending. Interment will follow is Ss. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Moosic.

Family and friends may visit  Wednesday from 5-8 P.M. at Kniffen O’Malley Leffler Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., Avoca
