In Loving Memory
It is with heavy hearts and profound respect that we announce the passing of a beloved soul, Mrs. Hattie Carter Holloway, on Sunday. Born July 28, 1929, in South Carolina and raised in Wilkes Barre, she was the daughter of the late George and Julia (Barnes) Holloway. Her kindness, wisdom, and generosity touched all who had the privilege of knowing her. In remembering such a cherished individual, we are reminded not only of the loss we endure, but also of the immeasurable legacy they leave behind—a life woven with moments of laughter, compassion, a quiet strength, and the love of God, that inspired those around her.
Hattie was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Carter; daughters Diana Dobson, and Betty Jean Carter; brothers Coley Holloway, and George Holloway; sisters Maggie Walters, Mary Jane Holloway, Ruby Holloway, Sarah Holloway, and Thelma Jones; grandchildren Christine, Carla, Troy and Mark. Left to cherish her memory, brother Warren Holloway, of New York, Sons David Holloway (Bernadette), Michael Holloway, Wilkes Barre, Mario Carter (Lisa), Georgia; Daughters Denise Carter, Wilkes-Barre, Roxanne Porter, Virginia, and Jamesetta Carter, Wilkes Barre. Grandchildren Joy, David Jr., Hattie (Steve), Lynn, Usheika, Mario Jr., Sh’keria, Mardell, John, Michael Jr., and Andrew; and a host of great grandchildren and great, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Devotion to Family
To family, she was a pillar of strength—a confidant, a guide, and a source of unconditional love. Her wisdom illuminated life’s crossroads, her patience soothed restless hearts. Holidays and birthdays were occasions for heartfelt traditions and shared memories, moments that will forever be treasured.
A Legacy of Kindness and Courage
As we reflect on a life so beautifully lived, we are reminded that true greatness lies not in grand gestures, but in the quiet moments of compassion and the courage to act with integrity. Mom’s legacy endures in every seed of kindness sown, every dream encouraged, every life touched.
We, her family and friends, honor her memory by striving to live as she did—with grace, humility, and an open heart. Though her physical presence will be deeply missed, her spirit remains ever-present in the stories we share, the lessons we carry, and the love that binds us together.
The funeral service will be held Thursday at 11:00 AM at Kniffen O’Malley Leffler Funeral & Cremation Services, 465 S. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, with Pastor James Breese officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township.
Family and friends may pay their respects Wednesday from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the funeral home
