Grace C. Curtis

Grace Curtis, née Carlson, 96, passed away on September 9, 2026 in her Shickshinny home—the day would have been her and her late husband’s 76th Wedding Anniversary.

Grace was born on June 30, 1930 in Avon, NJ and spent part of her childhood with her siblings at the Christian Home for Children at Fort Lee, NJ before graduating from the Manasquan (NJ) High School Class of 1948. She became a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1950 after attending the Ann May School of Nursing.

She married her husband Charles Curtis on September 9, 1950 and their family resided in Flemington, NJ for the next 23 years where she was employed at the RCA Semiconductor facility in Somerville, Carrier Clinic in Belle Mead, and Hunterdon Medical Center in Flemington.

After moving to Shickshinny, PA in 1973, Grace continued her nursing career working at Berwick Hospital and Bonham’s Nursing Home; and she also operated a small craft store in Shickshinny in the 1980s with her husband.

Grace and Charles spent a significant portion of their retirement traveling the country in their RV.

Grace was a member of the Reyburn Bible Church and her faith was very important to her, as were her wonderful friends from the church and surrounding area. She enjoyed working on puzzles, needlepoint, reading, and word search books.

Grace was proceeded in death by her husband, Charles R. Curtis; parents, Alfred and Sofie Carlson; brother, Alfred Carlson, sister, Alice Schaefer and her twin sister, Elsie Melanson; son-in-law, Fred Amorosa.

She is survived by her children, David Curtis (Kathy) of Stockbridge, GA, Kathleen Korstange (John) of Wyoming, MI, Russel Curtis (Linda) of Virginia Beach, VA, Debra Amorosa of Shickshinny, PA, and Brian Curtis (Adele) of Huntington Mills, PA; and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

A pending memorial service will be held at the Reyburn Bible Church, 77 Reyburn Road, Shickshinny, PA. Arrangements are by the Kniffen & O'Malley Funeral Home, 465 S. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, PA.
