George A. Baird, 89, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2015, at Celtic Hospice, Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre.

Born on April 27, 1926 in West Pittston, George was a son of the late Arthur and Clara (Veith) Baird. He obtained his Certificate in Banking from the American Institute of Banking.  He worked in the banking industry for 40 years, having retired from PNC, formerly First Eastern Bank.

George was married to his late wife, Gwendolyn F. Baird, on September 18, 1955 and enjoyed 60 years together.  He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. He was a member of the choir, played the piano and was very active in church activities. He was also a member of Valley Lodge No. 499, F. & A.M.

George enjoyed riding bikes and walking. In the fall, he enjoyed taking trips with his family to see the changing leaves.

In addition to his parents and wife, George was preceded in death by brothers, Gerald, who was a twin, Robert and Howard.

Left to cherish his memory are sons, David Baird, Wilkes-Barre; Jeffery and his wife, Susan Zingale-Baird, Philadelphia; daughter, Dr. Michelle Baird-Pusey and husband, Dr. Frank O. Pusey, Jr., Blythewood, SC; grandchildren, Justine and Jessica Baird, Philadelphia; Heather and Crystal Pusey, Blythewood, SC; David Baird Jr. and Meredythe Baird, Wilkes-Barre; sister, Ruth Fennely, Lehigh Valley; sister-in-law, Janet Jacobs and husband, Edward, Edwardsville; several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at Kniffen O’Malley Funeral Home, 465 S. Main St, Wilkes-Barre on Monday, September 28 at 11 A.M. Pastor Peter Kuritz will be officiating. Friends may call Sunday from 5-7 P.M. and Monday from 10-11 A.M.  Masonic Services will be held at 6 P.M. on Sunday.

Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
