Ellen L. (Dietz) Dwyer, 85, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Wilkes-Barre on April 4, 1938, she was a daughter of the late Robert A. and Lucy (Davis) Dietz.  Ellen was a member of the Episcopal Church of St. Clement & St. Peter, Wilkes-Barre.

Ellen enjoyed staying active by cooking, crocheting, playing bingo and going to the casino. She loved watching football, gameshows, and soap operas. Ellen took great care of her family and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Abigail Dwyer; 4 sisters and 1 brother.

Ellen is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, James Dwyer; children, Colleen Florek and Fiance, Marty, Wilkes-Barre; Kelly Dwyer, Wilkes-Barre; Janelle McGrady and husband, Shawn, Hanover Twp.; and James A. Dwyer and wife, Pamela, Murfreesboro, TN; grandchildren, Jamie and Keith Lukowich, Nicole McGrady, Ashley Florek, Shawn McGrady, Caitlin Florek, Justin McGrady, Brianna Kelly, and Lucas Dwyer; 8 great grandchildren; and sisters, Joanne McCann and Donna Weber; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Allied Hospice for the wonderful care Ellen received.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10:00 AM at Kniffen O’Malley Leffler Funeral & Cremation Services, 465 S. Main St, Wilkes-Barre. Officiating will be Father Charles Warwick. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Twp.

Family and friends may pay their respects Monday from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
