In loving memory of Edward G. Chernouskas, 90 of Pittston, a devoted husband, cherished father, and adoring grandfather and great grandfather, whose life was a testament to unwavering love, integrity, and resilience. Edward passed away peacefully at home on Monday, July 14, surrounded by his loving wife, daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren whom he dedicated his life to.
Born in Pittston, he was the son of Alex and Anna (Gdovin) Chernouskas. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Leonard Chernouskas, several sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and a nephew.
He attended Pittston High School and retired from SLC Graphics in Hughestown, PA. Edward was a proud veteran of the US Army having served in Korea and could always be found wearing his Korean veteran baseball cap.
He married his wife, the former Julia Kolankiewicz and they recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on July 2nd. True to his commitment to her, his main concern during his hospital stay was having cards for her birthday and their anniversary. They spent their lives together as true partners and best friends raising their daughters, enjoying their grandchildren, and could always be found together cleaning, decorating, shopping, and sitting on the patio together. As devout Catholics, they attended Mass together and recited their novenas and rosaries daily.
Edward is survived by his wife Julia, daughters and sons-in-law, Sharyn and Mark Naylor, Duryea; Noreen and Angelo Bertinelli, Dallas; Carol, West Wyoming; grandchildren Brittany, Kristi Wilk, Rachel, Kara, Jordan and Michael; and great grandchildren, Harper Rose and Connor James Wilk. He is also survived by his sister Leona Kobilinski, Moosic, brother Casimir (Mary Ann), Pittston;sister-in-law, Lorraine (Robert) Hergan, Wyoming; and several nieces and nephews.
In accordance with his wishes, funeral services will be private. The family would like to express their gratitude to the caring and compassionate nurses and staff at Geisinger Wyoming Valley, Wesley Village Rehabilitation, Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dr. Luigi Spagnolini and staff for their care, and everyone for their assistance in helping his family bring him home as he requested. We would also like to thank his caring neighbors, especially Neil, who were always there to lend a helping hand when needed.
If desired, memorial contributions in his name can be made to the American Heart Association or the Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 30 Ed Preate Drive, Suite 108, Moosic, PA 18507.
He leaves behind a legacy of hard work and dedication, instilling in his daughters and grandchildren the values of honesty, perseverance, and above all, the importance of family.
His presence will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
