WILKES-BARRE-Dorothea E. Karchin, 94, formerly of Grove Street, Wilkes-Barre, of Hanover Township, passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at Birchwood Nursing & Rehab Center, Nanticoke.

Born in Ashley on January 21, 1920 she was a daughter of the late Oscar and Bertha (Craver) Flickinger.

Dorothea was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church, Ashley where she served as the organist for over 20 years. She also was the former organist at Albright United Methodist Church, Derr Memorial Church, Wilkes-Barre and Askam United Methodist Church.

She worked at the Hotel Sterling and Hessler Laundry for many years. Dorothea was an active member of the Salvation Army Ladies Auxiliary, Wilkes-Barre, PA, serving as past president and other offices.

Surviving are two loving daughters, Mrs. Sumnar Davies, Hanover Township, Mrs. Beverly Doty, Chester, NY, 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Helen Fink, Hanover Township, Mrs. Marion Sterling, Forty Fort, Mrs. Erma Correa, Arizona.

Dorothea was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Karchin, who died in 1990, and a son, William Humenanski.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at 3:00PM at the Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, 465 S. Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, with the Reverend Barbara Saxe officiating.
Friends are invited to attend the viewing from 1:00PM to 3:00PM on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Interment will be private at Maple Hill Cemetery, Hanover Township.
