David G. Barber

David Gideon Barber Sr. transitioned from labor on earth to reward with the Lord on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 in Forty-Fort. He was born in Washington D.C. on December 14, 1974.

David was preceded in death by his sister; Sarita Precious Barber, mother; Rita Denise Barber, and grandmother; Arlene Iris Barber. Surviving are his sons; David Barber Jr. and Tayshawn Barber, Sister; Angel Barber, Companion; Erika Pertrole.

David graduated from Accoctink Academy and from Keystone Job Corp. He earned his associates degree in criminal justice from Luzerne Community College. He was formerly employed at the Social Security Administration Department in Wilkes-Barre. He was the treasurer for the NAACP Wilkes-Barre Branch #2306. He was also associated with the Luzerne County Democratic Committee and Part of Action Together.

His hobbies included helping others, spending time with his sons, being active in community organizations, and politics. He was a former member of Mount Zion Baptist Church and current member of Parkhill Community Church.

David Barber Sr. will be remembered as a hardworking, charismatic, compassionate, assertive, intelligent, and resourceful Christian man who dedicated his life to helping others. His spirit lives on.

Home going celebrations for David will be held on Tuesday October 9, 2018 at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 105 Hill Street Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702, with Rev. Michael E. Brewster officiating.  Family and friends may pay their respects from 4 pm to 6 pm at the church. Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family.  Kniffen O’Malley Leffler Funeral and Cremation Services Inc. 465 South Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, are entrusted with the arrangements.
