Clara Mae “Cookie” Norton, 85, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2025, at Birchwood Rehabilitation and Healthcare, Nanticoke.
Born in Wilkes-Barre on June 25, 1940, she was a daughter of the late Norman and Clara Norton. Cookie was raised by her beloved grandparents, Helen and Anthony Watson, and will be remembered with a tombstone at their gravesite.
Cookie was truly a people person and found great joy spending her time at the Active Adult Centers in Edwardsville and Kingston. It was there that her kindness, generosity, and warm spirit touched everyone she met. She devoted countless hours to volunteering, lovingly crocheting more than 50 items for nursing home residents, and bringing smiles wherever she went. A proud member of the Looney Tunes singing group at both centers, Cookie’s joyful presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Norton.
Cookie is survived by her sister, Janice Norton; sister-in-law, Donna Norton; nieces, Kelly Vespico, Robin Heinz Hibbard and husband Mike, Sandy Dompkosky and husband Robert, Janelle Davison and husband Matt, and Dawn Roman and significant other Christian Bonito; nephews, Tom Heinz and wife Kate, and Thomas R. Norton and wife Kelly; 19 great-nieces and nephews; and nine great-great-nieces and nephews. Cookie loved each one of them dearly.
Always laughing and always smiling, Cookie’s happiest gift to the world was her joyful heart, which she shared freely and unconditionally with everyone she met.
A graveside service will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Kniffen O’Malley Leffler Funeral & Cremation Services.
