Cecilia Maude Phoenix

Cecilia Maude (John) Phoenix, 90, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away on April 21, 2026, at her home with her beloved daughter by her side.

Born on May 2, 1935, in the Bronx, New York, she was the daughter on the late Victor and Vivian (Richards) John.

After graduating high school, Cecilia went on to work at RCA for the majority of her life. After retiring from RCA, she worked at the Salvation Army. Cecilia loved to socialize, whether it was spending time with friends or family, she loved being around others. She also loved to travel and see the world. Cecilia had a heart of gold and a passion for caring for others and was a foster care mother for many years and was also a daycare mother. Her compassion and love will never be forgotten by those who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Leroy R. Phoenix; her partner, Alfonso Stewart; sisters, June Grimes and Dolores John; brothers, Richardo John and Victor John; son, Alan R. Phoenix, and her foster grandchild, Nichole Allen.

Surviving to cherish her memory is her loving daughter, Teresa Phoenix; grandchildren, Zaynah Hunt, Bilal Williams, Zarinah Williams, Neken Williams, Alan (AJ) Phoenix, Augustus Phoenix, and Demetrius (DJ) Phoenix; her foster grandchildren, Barbara Deshazo, Jessica Deshazo, and Christopher Allen; great grandchildren, Aidan Hunt, Langston Hunt, Cecilia (Ceci) Phoenix, Aya Williams, and Yasin Williams; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other loved ones.

A viewing will take place on May 7, 2026, from 5-7 at Kniffen O’Malley Leffler Funeral & Cremation Services, 465 S. Main St, Wilkes-Barre. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on May 8 at 10AM, at St. Mary’s St. Nicholas Parish, 226 S. Washington St, Wilkes-Barre.
