Carol J. Norton

Carol J. Norton, 81, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, May 29, 2023, with her nephew, Robert S. Norton Jr., by her side.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late John S. and Helen (Shakalum) Norton.

Carol graduated from Elmer L. Meyers High School in 1961 and she was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Wilkes-Barre.

She was initially employed by Bevan’s Nursing Home in Wilkes-Barre for several years prior to moving to Hampton House Nursing Home in Hanover Township, PA. She later retired from the Hampton House to provide full-time home care for her mother. Carol had an enormous heart, full of love and compassion and spent the remainder of her lifetime selflessly devoting herself to caring for other family members as well.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, John W. Norton and Robert S. Norten and sister-in-law, Betty J. Norton.

Carol is survived by her sister-in-law, Beverly J. Norton; niece, Dr. Kimberly N. Kurland and husband, Dr. Thomas F. Kurland of York, PA; nephews, John E. Norton, Robert S. Norton Jr., and Todd A. Norton and wife, Sherri of Nanticoke, PA; great-nephews, Thomas Kurland Jr., Alec and Austin Norton; great-nieces, Jordan Norton, Emily and Madison Kurland; and several great-great nieces, great-great nephews and cousins.

The family would like to thank the staff at Compassionate Care Hospice and the employees of Visiting Angels for their unwavering care and support.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10:45 AM at Kniffen O’Malley Leffler Funeral & Cremation Services, 465 S. Main St., Wilkes-Barre. Family and friends may visit from 10:00 AM until the service. Interment will follow in Hanover Green Cemetery.
