Barbara (Lear) Stachowiak

WILKES-BARRE-Barbara Ann Stachowiak, 73, of Wilkes-Barre, passed on to Heaven on Sunday February 2, 2014 at home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Wilkes-Barre on August 11, 1940, a daughter of the late Helen Lear Gross. She was a graduate of EL Meyers High School class of 1958 and worked in Retail for over 30 years at Learner's and Kids R Us.


Barbara was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was an active member of First Assembly of God Church, Wilkes-Barre and enjoyed volunteering her time.


Barbara was truly a selfless person. Along with her husband John, her life was one of helping others wherever she saw the opportunity. Whether it was a family member, friend, a brother or sister from church or a complete stranger. She was always that person behind the scenes providing assistance to others without calling attention to herself.


Preceding her in death in addition to her mother were her husband John Stachowiak and brothers Charles and James Gross.


Left to cherish Barbara's memory are her daughters Linda Getter of Wilkes-Barre, Colleen Azimi of Mount Laurel NJ and son Michael McVeigh, and his wife, Jean of Swoyersville; Grandaughters Heather and her Husband Lemar Robinson and Rheanon Azimi; Great Grandson Jayden Robinson and sister Beth Williams. She is also survived by her step-children Marie, and her husband, Phillip Joyce, of New Orleans; John, and his wife, Michele, of New Cumberland; grandchildren, Matthew, Sarah, and Rachel and her beloved dog Zack.


The family would like to thank Connie, Pam, Ruth and Renee from Celtic Home Health for all their care and support.


The funeral service will be held at Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, 465 S. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, on Friday at 11 A.M. with Pastor Jason Gornicz officiating.

Family and friends may call Thursday from 5-8 P.M. at the funeral home and Friday from 10-11 A.M.
