Al Morgan, 82, a lifelong resident of Wilkes-Barre, passed away peacefully, April 10th, at his home in Edwardsville. He was born December 11, 1942.
Al grew up in the Rolling Mill Hill section and attended G.A.R High School. He worked various jobs throughout his life from a foreman at Addy Asphalt, Geisinger Maintenance Dept. and later drove a school bus. He was a talented carpenter and loved to tinker and fix things.
It was at the Parrish Street swimming pool where he met the love of his life Janice Snarski, where she was a lifeguard. Against all odds of him attending GAR and she attending Marymount High School, a Protestant married a Catholic on May 28, 1966. He later in life was baptized Catholic. They would have celebrated 59 years of marriage on May 28th.
Al was a man with many hobbies. He loved going to his permanent camp site and enjoyed fireside conversations with all his camping friends. He also enjoyed hunting in Thornhurst and fishing at Harveys Lake. However, his focus of pride and joy was his only grandson, Ricky. Al was the epitome of a “Poppy”, he never missed a game or event of anything that his grandson was involved in from an early age until the end of high school. His other pride was his son Rick, they shared a special father-son bond that was more like best friends. Al was always there to give his opinion and lend a hand to any projects the two were perpetually working on. Lastly, he loved his daughter-in-law, Janet, like the daughter he never had. He was like a father to her and bragged to anyone who would listen about her cooking.
Al was known for his keen sense of humor and joked with everyone he met. In later years, he lived at the Gateway Apartments, he knew everyone and was seen at the swimming pool from the beginning of the season to closing.
Al is survived by his loving wife, Jan, who cared for him at home over the last year of his declining health. His son Rick Morgan and wife Janet, of Shavertown, and grandson Ricky of Shavertown. He also leaves behind his most faithful and loyal companion, Buddy, who never left his side and watched over him until the end.
The family would also like to thank Dr. Stanley Lobitz for his years of devoted care and his nurse Caroline. Also special thanks to all Al’s caregivers from Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their compassionate care over the past year.
The family will receive friends and relatives Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 9:30-11:30 A.M at Kniffen O’Malley Leffler Funeral Home, 465 S. Main St. Wilkes-Barre. There will be a blessing service at the funeral home at 11:30 am by Rev. John Terry.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Al’s name to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 100 William St., Dunmore, Pa. 18510 or the charity of your choice.
