Stanley Cooper Jr. Obituary

Stanley J. Cooper Jr., 93, of Wilkes-Barre and formerly of Larksville, passed away Tuesday April 17, 2018, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.  Stanley was born in Larksville on August 28, 1924.  He was the son of the late Stanley J. Cooper Sr., and the former Elizabeth Evans.  

Stanley served in the U.S. Army during Work War II.  He was honorably discharged in 1946.  After being discharged he and his father started a fly tying store for angelers in New York.  Over the years Stanley went on to  became a professional fly tyer, operating a store in Larksville before moving to Wilkes-Barre.  He went on to tie flies for Abercrombie & Fitch, Orvis, local outdoor shops and fellow anglers.  He also tied flies for such dignitaries as Hall of Famer legend Ted Williams, the Roosevelt family, former president Jimmy Carter and even taught fly tying with legendary angler George Harvey.  He did that for nearly 70 years and he estimated he had tied approximately 2.6 million flies.  He was later inducted as a Catskill Legend.  He was a member of Wyoming Valley Presbyterian Church in Wilkes-Barre where he served as sexton.  

Stanley was preceded in death by an infant sister.

Surviving is his wife of 72 years of marriage, the former Mary Howze.  Son; David J. Cooper and his wife, Karen.  Grandchild; Glenn D. Cooper.  Great-grandchildren; Kaylin Cooper and Glenn Cooper Jr.  

Funeral services for Stanley will be held on Friday at 11:00am at Wyoming Valley Presbyterian Church, 2 Lockhart Street, Wilkes-Barre PA 18702.  Interment with military honors will be held in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hanover Township.  Family and friends may call on Friday from 9:00am until time of service at 11:00am at Wyoming Valley Presbyterian Church.  In lieu of flowers donations in Stanley's memory may be made to the Senior Chapter of Trout Unlimited PO Box 1135 Kingston, PA 18704 or the Wyoming Valley Presbyterian Church 2 Lockhart Street Wilkes Barre, PA 18702.  Arrangements are entrusted to Kniffen O'Malley Leffler Funeral and Cremation Services Inc. 465 South Main Street, Wilkes-Barre PA 18701.
