Paul C. Shakalum, 90, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Tuesday evening, January 23, 2018 at St. Luke’s Villa, Wilkes-Barre. He was born in Wilkes-Barre on December 9, 1927, to the late William and Mary (Rymsza) Shakalum. After graduating High School from Kingston Township, Paul went into the United States Navy where he proudly served his country for eight years. While in the Navy, he served on the ship the USS Monterey. His job was to flag the planes onto the ship. During his service, he graduated from radio school. After being Honorably Discharged from the United States Navy, Paul went on to work at the United States Post Office in Ardmore, PA until he retired in 1989. Paul also loved to fish, go to the casino, collect stamps, and do puzzles. Paul is survived by his niece, Carol Norton, a nephew, Robert S. Norton, Sr. and his wife Betty, and niece-in-law, Beverly Norton. In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his three brothers, Stanley, William, and Victor, four sisters, Sophia, Jean, Florence, and Helen, and a nephew, John W. Norton. The family would like to thank Paul’s friends at Provincial Towers, the staff at St. Luke’s Villa and Dr. Kerrigan for their care and compassion. A private graveside service will be held for Paul at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Plymouth. Arrangements were handled by Kniffen O’Malley Leffler Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., Wilkes-Barre.
