Janet M. Zelinski, 85, of Avoca, passed away peacefully Saturday morning at Celtic Hospice, Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre after a brief illness.
Born in Pittston on July 28, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Mary (Henderson) Cather, Sr.
Janet worked for over 30 years at Parodi Cigar Factory, when she retired as a floor supervisor. She loved cooking and spending time with her grandchildren and family, especially her cat, Mia. She especially loved vacationing with them in her favorite spot, Long Beach Island, N.J.
She was a member of American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Post 585, Duryea, Duryea V.F.W. 1227 Auxiliary and the West Side Social Club, Avoca.
She was preceded in death by; her first husband, Stanley Joseph Halagarda, who tragically passed away in 1976, her second husband, Robert T. Zelinski, who passed in 2004, a sister, Christine Meier, brothers John and Robert Cather.
Surviving are her loving sons, Robert Halagarda and his companion, Cathy Kinney-Torchia, Avoca, Gary and his wife, Linda (Marsh) Halagarda, Avoca, step-children, Becky and her husband, Jack Munley, Scranton, Robert Zelinski, Jr. and wife, Amy, Olyphant, Cheryl and her husband, Rick Arnold, Millsboro, De, two grand children, Collin and Hailey Halagarda, 4 step grandchildren, Robert and Zoe Zelinski, Angelina and Alexander Arnold, nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday 10:00 A.M. at Queen of Apostles Church, 715 Hawthorne Street, Avoca, with Father Phillip Sladicka officiating. Interment will follow in Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Moosic. The family ask that you go directly to church.
Friends and family may call on Monday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Kniffen O’Malley Leffler Funeral Home, 728 Main Street, Avoca.
In lieu of flowers, donations can me made to the Avoca Ambulance Association or Avoca Hose Company, 740 Main Street, Avoca.
